Childhood is an exciting time of wonder and discovery. The VCU Health Child Care at Lora M. Robins Family Learning Center is a place where friendships blossom, relationships are nurtured and where each child is viewed as capable and competent. Children are encouraged to explore their potentials in an atmosphere filled with affection, encouragement, understanding and respect.
Our program is based on proven developmental and educational theories designed to nurture essential physical, social, emotional, and cognitive skills. Children are encouraged to establish a sense of trust and a positive self-concept as they strive to learn more about themselves and the world around them.
Inspired by the schools of Reggio Emilio, Italy (named by US News and World Report as one of the top 10 preschools in the world), our philosophy encourages teachers and children to be partners in learning. Through careful observation and investigation of the children’s interests the teacher creates an environment supportive of research and learning.

Our program is among only eight percent in the United States to be accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). We maintain appropriate teacher/child ratios, which are critical to providing quality care and individualized attention.

Parents as Partners
We view parents as our partners and maintain an open door policy. Communication is an essential part of our program and parents are invited to share thoughts and ideas. Special events, parent meetings and educational seminars also encourage a healthy exchange of information.
