As part of VCU Health, our school has access to professionals from many different disciplines. The center is fortunate to have a staff educated in the fields of early childhood growth and development, education, art and social work.
Our teachers remain current in educational theory and best practices for children, as well as new approaches to learning through continuing education and participation in research. They are introduced to the Reggio Emilia Approach as interpreted by our center. While this approach may manifest itself differently from its origins in Italy and other North American schools, there are many hallmarks that are valued and implemented here at Northside. One of those hallmarks is that of being a life-long learner. We as teachers see ourselves as co-constructors of knowledge, working alongside the children as they explore and discover. Part of our learning process is to reflect on our experiences, including those that are personal and professional, as well as with the children and alone in our planning.
